This one is about sitcoms, and the beauty of them.
What I love about sitcoms is that you can take: a) A (mismatched/dysfunctional) character/family, b) A perfectly normal guy who is surrounded by morons, or c) A mismatched couple/group joined together for hilarious results. If you put any of these in a wierd setting, the humor level supposedly goes up. It does not.
My sitcom however will be different. It is about a dysfunctional family that lives in space. It comprises of a father, a mother, a son who lives on the moon, and a baby of indeterminate gender that can talk in a really, really deep voice. Every episode is about their humorous day-to-day life with "unexpected" complications, and it pretty much consists of a half-hour (The third law of sitcoms is that if it goes for longer than a half-hour, it's not a sitcom, just an time filler) of space puns, jokes about space told by a 3-year-old to other 3-year-olds (and they don't even find them funny) and jokes making reference to celebrities who are not very popular and basically form the recipe for the biggest buzzkill-ing joke ever. The show will be hilarious. My guess is that it will receive upwards of 3.5-million, and why not? It follows the rules perfectly, and if you added in a laugh track at inappropriate moments, it could possibly be the pinnacle of sitcoms. Look at the sitcoms that exist out there, and tell me one that doesn't follow the rules. Chances are you might find one if you look beyond major prime-time mainstream, but there is no sitcom in the world that follows absolutely none of these rules. Otherwise, it's not a sitcom. (The exception might be a 1-hour sitcom, as those do exist, but if you ask me, they're in a different category).
Another thing about sitcoms is that they're popular. You rarely get a ridiculously unpopular sitcom. Unless all of the jokes are about bowel cancer or something else which shouldn't be made fun of. In that case, and pretty much only in that case, a sitcom is unpopular.
By the way, expect to see my sitcom on Wednesdays at 7:30 on one of those popular commercial TV stations watched religiously by Bogans (examples include Channel 10 in Australia), and expect to see it run for a 20-episode season. You should see the DVD box set (complete with crap character group photos on the front cover) in about 3 months time.
Until then, adios, and watch many more sitcoms.
